Academic family. What for you is the difference between freedom of speech and academic freedom in particular when it comes to teaching. Are you absolutely free to teach anything you want in your department? In any field? At any level?

2/ this means the gov’t cannot retaliate b/c you say this. Ppl can protest you b/c the “moon is made of

Academic freedom means that academic researchers are experts and can make judgement calls based of quality and research standards. No astronomy dept needs to or has to allow this guy making “the moon is

He has no expertise. And this is departmental/academic academic freedom. So these judgements are based on research standards and quality. Free speech=academic freedom.

This is different than a discussion about method of teaching which should be up to the expert academic to make that call.
