Holy moly. I.. we have major problems in the field over here, absolutely. But the behavior I see from some UK at fac is jawdropping on a regular basis. I am so sorry I was offline much of today and missed all this : (

I do not think it's accidence that another early medieval historian deciding to post this after the Halsall debacle.... so, one should consider where folks want to point to things we all discuss, but yet doesn't want to say a thing about the WTF of "colleagues."

ADM's tweet came half a day earlier, but the Halsall meltdown and the silence that followed shows the central problem with the complaint: yes, individual scholars of course have individual lives, but collectively, there are always some who can step up. so when no one does...

oh no- it was Halsall who was calling names like that?? Are the students ok? Are they getting support? Did SOMEONE sr step in over that?? (I'm going to see if I can find the exchange now but I know I'm hours late)

What do you think her stepping down was about & finally just opening up the terrible of what was happening in the org. You are imagining that good white medievalists are going to step up, but look at the board and who was on, they did not, not even for, give me a code of conduct.

Dorothy. I'm very sorry that my call for compassion angered you. I tweeted that I feared my words would be misread, and it seems that they have been, but I realize I can do nothing in this forum to change your mind about my racism.

I think the issue is that critiquing a "call-Out" rather than wondering what are the conditions for these things, the power dynamics, and why, and also what are the coalitions who are organizing to say enough, what does that mean than saying the act of calling out is a problem?

Mary is an independent scholar, she did it this w/ no compensation, no institutional resources, w/ her own health, well-being, mental health, and money on the line to do the work to change this white supremacist boat. She is also a BIWOC. So, consider that.

So if we are calling out to support an independent scholar who has put all of those things listed on the line in order to help change a white supremacist org, I really find then some critique that our support is the problem a huge issue.

Scholars have discussed how affect is unevenly distributed in regards to race, gender, etc. So, you may want to consider why backing and supporting a BIWOC and her labor (as well as the turmoil it has taken on her life) should not have everyone' empathy or sympathy.
