This is the thing, as a joke, does it really work? It can literally be lifted and posted online somewhere and people would not see it as a joke. It's better as a joke as something that punches up, if it said, Stop talking shit about the Middle English authors and then said

Chaucer is rapist; the York Plays are antisemitic; etc. The original set of lines does not read to me as funny in relation to what the top line "Stop talking shit about...." says especially when people usually say they its to complain that we are too "PC" about writers/artists.
