Never completely bought Star Trek's version of future history until this year. I thought the idea of strongmen taking over the world was super silly, and that part of the lore jarred me as an artifact of the pre-WWII past... Looking around the world, I stand corrected.

I start co-teaching a class on Dystopias and Utopias tomorrow. Instead of lectures and discussions to accompany the class readings of The Hunger Games and Octavia Butler's Parable series, I just want to assign newspapers and newscasts.
