Question was fair, because it referred to “advice” from Billie Jean King.

The text of the exchange w/ king makes clear she never said this.

I just saw the question being asked to Serena, with that attribution. It’s a fair question for a journalist to ask, given that there are those who do say these sorts of things, and I think she gave a brilliant answer

I think it is a BS thing for a journalist to ask. Would they ask this to a white guy. No they would not.

1- Williams had no problem answering, she shot it down. 2- the journalist was bringing up what others say about Williams, asking “what do you have to say to those who want to silence you?” Why not bring it out into the open & let her silence her critics? And she did!

Because it is more labor for her. This is not labor white men have to do. This is an equity issue rather than a can she answer issue.

The journalist is not responsible for that “labour” & Williams is as strong as anyone needs to be. It did not diminish her to answer that question, it strengthened her.

The point is not whether it diminished her. The point is that she has to do emotional and extra labor in regards to race and gender and so has to expend more time & energy to deal w/ this. White men do not. So guess they can concentrate only on the goal.
