It's fascinating when people want to ignore the second part of my tagline, which is that I had a Fulbright in Iceland. So yes, I read Old Norse, Old Swedish, as well as read modern Icelandic, Swedish, Danish, and Norwegian.

And as my last article was just published in the Medieval Chronicle Journal. A double-blind peer-reviewed journal run by historians, I am pretty sure my peer reviewers, not to mention the journal editors are fine with my "history" training. Or you can ask some of my medieval

history professors from grad school: Richard Rouse, Pat Geary, etc. So have fun with that line of argumentation. (h/t Maud) I could have also pointed out Snorri Sturluson uses the word vikingar (pl) to describe the North African opponents of Sigurð Jorsalafari in Magnussonarsaga.
