So, are we going to discuss medievalism and video games in relation to the alt-right, toxic masculinity and racism, and the fact that medieval video games is sort of the terrain of white heritage fantasies? Or is this going to be a medievalism is great but let's not talk 1/

about all that difficult white supremacy, white terrorism, violent racism, etc. and what so many of my games studies and CRC and feminist/queer studies colleagues have been talking about for years. I mean, Woke Gaming does have chapters on medieval video games... 2/2

Every single one of the games you have mentioned has a massive white supremacist issue. So, yeah, this issue and question seems deeply absent in this intro. even when the NY Times just recently did a story about video games and Christchurch.

And exactly why are we opening with a "love" x, y, z. Why is it about the affective experience of medieval things? Isn't this part of the problem. So are you going to also address why loving these things also means upholding toxic and violent white supremacy?

This really just soft pedals video games+medievalism as this thing of DELIGHT w/out nary a discussion/explanation of decades of violent toxic racist misogynist gaming culture that help wrought alt-right politics. So why set it up this way? What public do you want to read this?

Because at the moment, it sure as hell reads like something straight out of all those digital sites that wanted to discuss their love of medieval, VERY WHITE AND RACIST AND MISOGYNIST, video games that full on were the swarm that went after

I don't know what part of my Teaching Medieval Studies in a Time of Write Supremacy that you read, but this opening and as far as I can tell with the rest of the series from it, is sure as hell not choosing a side. You are literally using the keywords of toxic GG culture.

So unless you feel this series is just for all the white supremacist and toxic violent misogynist gamers out there, what are you doing? There is not one signal, one anything that suggests this is not further upholding white supremacist frames in gaming culture.

And really, already, I love how a toxic troll has already tried to come for me on Twitter b/c of this long thread. Exactly WHAT DOES THAT TELL YOU.
