Well, you do realize that Curtis has known me for a long time. Not that he's ever talked to me or asked me about what fun alt-right shenanigans has been going on in my life when we had offices in the same building.

Dorothy, I agree I should have sought your advice and expressed my support for your work when I started

At the time it felt like giving you space when you had more significant things to worry about than my dinky project. After trying to do the work I’ve started to be able to see it also as typical white man behavior. I hope I can be on your side in this work. 2/

So then why did you need to be called out on twitter to say that? By “started to be able to see” you must be referring to literally 2 minutes ago

You’re right, Dorothy’s comment prompted me to reflect on this failure. But what I think has been an ongoing process of learning brought me to the place to recognize the justness of the call out. 1/

Getting called out isn’t my favorite way to learn but it’s one I try to take seriously. Most of the classicists I tagged above have corrected me, even called me out and I’m grateful for it and have tried to put what they said into practice. 2/

I really do not know why you are bothering me. And also, I find all this so typical of your MO. I am really not interested in the performative BS. In fact, the last time we exchanged emails as colleagues it was precisely to discuss why you continued to want BIPOC students to

do performative allyship labor in order to make you look good. And why I find this to be a problem and burden to BIPOC students. And really, the kind of white entitlement and whiteness of the whole thing considering you have spent years saying all sorts of sexist and racist

stuff to women and BIPOC faculty regularly. I do not really care about doing the labor of calling you out. That is really your problem. But considering how much you have never backed any woman or BIPOC unless they had power, I find all of this just tiresome and so Whiteness 101.
