You do realize the books address Native American displacement and settler colonialism. Could you not use "new world" since it's hugely problematic and rests on some idea that N. America is empty of people and culture before violent settler colonialism.
Hugely problematic for whom? "New" is not a synonym for "empty". Besides, it's their (Jamie & Claire's) new world, not The new world.
...finding a problem for every solution?
Technically, it's not "new" for Claire as she lived in N. America for decades. The way the promo shot is set up is directly feeding into visual rhetorical ideas of "The New World" (as empty, untouched, virgin wilderness).https://www.thoughtco.com/american-settler-colonialism-4082454 …
She gets to see it from a very different point of view
Basically, my point is the production at least, I don't know yet about the writers, have not actually figured out the issues in relation to this very well if they are perpetrating this kind of visual & verbal rhetoric in their promos. It means either 1. they are ignoring
and then they just want to be intentionally racist and participate in the continued violent settler colonial narrative of manifest destiny and settler colonialism or 2. they don't know which means even in a season where they must address complex
historical issues around race, genocidal settler colonialism, transatlantic chattel slavery, they do not have the writers, producers, (or have gotten the consultants) to do this thoughtfully, with inclusive voices & POVs, etc.
Either way, it does not bode well for this season & how they are going to deal with these issues and they are going to get roundly criticized by thoughtful critics because of it. From Roxane Gay to several of the others in MSM who called them out for their racism problems in S 3.
