As usual, I am procrastinating on Twitter. Trying to figure out whether I'm going to stay another night in my hot apartment, or get a hotel. (A/C is out; landlord approved a replacement, but now it's all about scheduling.)

And the maddening thing is that I grew up entirely without central air. We had a wall unit in the upstairs hall, but Mom didn't really run it. This particular building seems to have been constructed with the assumption that there would always be central heating & cooling.

Finally, there's no basement here. That's what we do in the Midwest if your air goes out, if there's a tornado, or just because -- go to the basement. But it's way too rainy here in the mid-Atlantic for that; my downstairs neighbor has flooded from time to time.

I could go to the mall or the movies, or even campus. I could call a friend. But that would require moving. Also, there's a coastal low that will hit at any moment, which means a downpour... there are flood warnings. And so, here I am, refreshing Twitter, as if in a trance.pic.twitter.com/Lp8xplZEub
