FOR EVERYBODY: 3. In regular textbooks taught at schools, what do you think is the most omitted topic that the textbook doesn’t talk about too much, and why do you believe that? How can we learn more?
Race. That the medieval past is not a white past.
Yes! (We are thrilled to hear from you, btw - we read your article/blog post recently.) We also read selections from the @PublicMedieval series & have their poster hanging in our room!
This also just came out and you and your students might enjoy it: https://notevenpast.org/did-race-and-racism-exist-in-the-middle-ages/ …. Her book, The Invention of Race in the Middle Ages should basically shake up our entire field.
This looks fascinating. And, these kinds of public outreach versions of texts are often just within middle/high school students' reading levels, which is just so wonderful. We are living in a great time for meaningful social studies education, if we want to take advantage of it!
We are so happy that these things are starting to be used in the K-12 curriculum. And I think many of us want to be available to students beyond the college classroom.
