I'm going to assume the "lads, we need state-supplied gf to save the west" were memes, but I know few who actually fit the mark of incel, so for all I know, probably. Probably not that many to justify an "all those" though.
Do people actually believe this? I mean, other than incredibly disturbed people like E Rodger himself? If they do, they should stop. The whole incel community is so fucking creepy.https://twitter.com/chick_in_kiev/status/988915252719968256 …

Yeah, well, the "all those" was people who have that belief, so.

The use of memes in these online subcultures is actually a really interesting phenomenon, because they are at once "just joking" and completely serious. It's also deliberately weaponised strategy by the alt-right, who are also heavily into meme culture, to recruit people

https://www.gq.com/story/daily-stormer-playbook-nazis … The fact that it's hard to tell the difference between someone who is 'just' shitposting and someone 'who actually means it' is something that they play to their advantage. The blurriness benefits them.

Mhm, 2016 brought it way to the front. Isn't going to encourage me to judge shitposts as a window to the heart though. Stops you from being able to judge a template meme even if it came from some cesspit of anger. Can't (and shouldn't) alter what people laugh to is the issue.

I think it's always good to be wary, tho, because they do rely on the normalisation of these beliefs in this manner. It's good to bear in mind.

Absolutely. I don't, or at least try not to, let a core concept infect me. I still laugh openly at outright morbid stuff, knowing it is morbid, so all I can do in the end is have faith that those around me are capable of the same thing. Helps none are from 'my community' per se.

yeah, that makes sense
