Excerpts: Imitation of desire is a form of mimesis called Mimetic Desire. Individuals who desire the same thing are united by their alignment of desires. When desires cannot be aligned, a mimetic conflict ensues.

The conflict is resolved in the collective violence of scapegoating, where both parties agree to sacrifice that which is maligning their desire. Periodically reenacting the sacrifice, prevents a return of the conflict.
