Fun game to play. List all possible routes {SFO,$DEST}, where is any airport for which Google Flights has flights from SFO. Let DEST_min be the minimum possible time for this route. Now find the largest such DEST_min! In other words, what's the most remote place from SFO?

Perhaps a more meaningful statistic would be the number (or ratio) of invited talks that one said 'no' to :)

Before engaging in an activity that you are worried you might simply enjoy, be sure to check that it can be worked into a career-centric self-improvement narrative.

How about fixing the carpet-bombed Folsom St between 2nd and Main... and making all of Valencia truly protected lanes... and being serious about discouraging drivers that use bike lanes as pick-up/drop-off spots. So much work to do!

What I enjoyed about this article is how it didn't ask a single *regular* tech worker how much they enjoy being in an open office. Various CEOs and CFOs like it a lot, for reasons that are hopefully obvious ;)

workday excels at taking a few bits of information (how many vacation days I will have throughout the year) and hiding them behind pages and pages and pages of useless menus.

On the flip side, I got a rejection from Netflix while I was driving back from Los Altos to San Francisco after the interview! I was very impressed by the efficiency.

In ~2012 I interviewed for a company that shall not be named. In the 2-3 minutes that people allowed me to ask questions, I asked the interviewers what they do for their job. 4/8 of them replied with a variation of "oh, nothing interesting, kind of boring" :)

Nice! This is the kind of stuff Yoshua & Yann have argued in their "Scaling Learning Algorithms towards AI " book chapter (). Back then it was a controversial opinion... PS: It's funny in retrospect that the book was called “Large-Scale Kernel Machines”

Ah yes, let's use "AI" to weed out potential Airbnb'ers "involved with drugs or alcohol". Or that display signs of neuroticism, narcissism, and traits which are "perceived as untrustworthy". Based on their social media. This cannot possibly be a bad plan!
