Fair use is dead to @YouTube, and they cheerfully dance on its grave.

I really hope people take the stand and file a class action lawsuit against YouTube.

It isn't YouTube doing this
, it's the big music companies abusing the broken copyright system. If YouTube were to make a proper, working system, the companies would lose out on huge profits and would either sue them into the ground or pull out of advertising.1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes -

Ohhhhh well if that’s the case then, by all means they should continue

Either way YouTube needs to make a middle ground. Most of the stuff the companies have been claiming is 2 seconds of footage or something completely fair use. Either way, they shouldn't be allowed to take 100% of the profit.

I’ve seen videos get claimed by bands because of a five second sound bite of howling wind in a completely unrelated indie horror game the person was playing. But I guess that’s fair then

I wasn't saying it was fair. As a YouTuber I know how unfair the current system is, but these things take time. As you can see, they are trying to introduce a new system to allow creators to see what was claimed, and remove that from their video.

“These things take time” Stunning how it’s only steadily gotten worse over the years then instead of improving.

Exactly. The community has told YouTube about many issues for years... nothing has happened except for changes we don't need.

I'm happy to have a discussion, but
@mkate_ultra blocked me, so... Not sure why what I said could trigger someone, but

Oh, really? Well... I can see this from both sides. They are doing something, and laws could be an issue, but also YouTube has stayed mostly silent on how they're trying to please both sides. That's one thing YouTube really lacks, communication with consumers.

A policy preventing Copyright owners from making $ on manual claims for:
Short song clips (ex: 5 sec of a song)
Unintentional audio (ex:
from passing cars)
Claimants can still block monetization or the video itself, but timestamps help you edit out the claim.Show this thread1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes -

I saw this earlier, I'm glad YouTube is listening to the community. I hope this plan goes well
