Indeed. Lesson Learned, right? Nooo, people will insist on calling them monads to feel superior.

Try precise. People familiar with a (sadly) niche domain language doesn't make them superior to others. The "happy path" does not describe all Monad instances out there, does a List have a happy path? No. The word Monad exists because it tries to encompass many things.

I’ve tried pointing that out where I work (where the term ‘sunny day code’ is used). Didn’t stick... Even when I’ve used it (in C++ - what fun that was - but it worked well enough) and demonstrated how well it works. Same as using RxCpp - works really well, gets no love...
