How is none of CT considered part of the NY metro area?
I was surprised too, but 25% of workers need to commute to the central city for an outlying county to be part of an MSA, and only ~15% of Fairfield County, CT workers commute to a different state as of 2017.https://www.census.gov/programs-surveys/metro-micro/about.html …
CA17,18,19 are all part of San Francisco metropolitan area.
Those three are almost entirely in the San Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara MSA; they are, however, part of the San Jose-San Francisco-Oakland *Combined* Statistical Area.
