Fraud, computer abuse, privacy violation? I'd be curious which ad network and which 'battery saver' app. (I guess 'root access' means 'some sensitive permissions')https://twitter.com/nandoodles/status/1345790410673815553 …

@donk_enby found an 'battery saver' app owned by an adtech firm. But impossible to say whether this is 1) the app mentioned above 2) problematic or not.https://twitter.com/donk_enby/status/1346055194258403328 …Wolfie Christl added,
crash override @donk_enbyThis got me curious, because root privileges aren't needed just to detect newly installed applications, so hooking play store to do this would be wild. I took a look on the Play Store and found this "battery saver" app published by ad-tech company TappX. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tappx.flipnsave.battery … https://twitter.com/nandoodles/status/1345790410673815553 …Show this thread1 reply 1 retweet 2 likesShow this thread
Replying to @WolfieChristl
yeah, I have not looked into it enough to say for sure, but "battery saver" apps are all bullshit, so very curious why this one had so much marketing put into it to get it to 1M installs
