    I'll be adding an update to this in 10-15 mins. Twitter became aware of this incident following a TechCrunch report () but their investigation also identified links to a state-sponsored actor. That's why u see the "state-sponsored" part in their statement

    Respectfully, people *do* search for vaccine info on Instagram. There’s a very active anti-vax community on the platform that spreads misinformation & benefits from IG’s algorithmic amplification:

    The detail is Instagram doesn't have a search results page, just a list of typeahead suggestions — which are really just a way to navigate. This distinct doesn't make sense to most people, nor should it, be practically means we'd have to figure a few things out.

    The main thing is that people don't search that much on Instagram, so we've prioritized our wellbeing work, vaccine related and otherwise, elsewhere. We should do more work here, but need to hold ourselves accountable for having real impact.

    I know I haven't worked at Facebook in a long time but isn't it a the combo of these blind spots? It's newsfeed optimizing for engagement, it's PSC, it's the metrics that the most senior execs are judged, and Integrity or CSO are not as high in the org chart as they should be.

    Sincere question, knowing that team goals aren’t always tied to user engagement. What metrics does FB focus on in quarterly earnings reports? Aren’t “active users” still a major metric that the company bases its performance on? And therefore, isn’t that one of the biggest goals?

    Your tweet and article have slightly different takes on the “blind spot” quote (and I can confirm that most teams’ “goals are *not* based around engagement metrics”) - above seems like a bit of a stretch?

    2/ Even for non-engagement metrics, the PSC system incentives short-term metric gains over long-term repercussions for the platform. This organizational management approach has widespread product implications across FB and IG.
