I see what you mean. However I often find that most people will often pretend to understand in order to move the conversation forward rather than asks questions and seem unknowledgeable. You’ve just got to read the room.

In communications, this is called knowing your audience.. there is skill in the ability to instantly tailor your message to inspire on a newly discovered, common level; your engagement will be memorable and the time spent, worthwhile, if you develop this side of you.

Exactly! I’ve tried to discipline myself to cater my words to the audience. When done correctly, there’s a clear difference between them being genuinely interested rather than finding the right moment to change topics.
