I'm convinced that all these accounts that do these Twitter listicle things with "who else?" at the end are bots retweeting each other. Can anyone else explain this?

Quite possibly the best piece I have ever read on money and identity. If you want to know why more money only buys more happiness to a point, this is the piece to read. From :

Every December I create a compilation of “my favorite investment writing” of the year, and I regret not including “Is Buying Stocks at an All-Time High a Good Idea?” by (+ idea from ). This is so good:

Do permabears live in such delusion that a 3% pullback “vindicates everything they’ve been saying”? I expect AT LEAST a 10% pullback this year. In fact, I expect it every year. This is what market history suggests. Data > Narratives

Nothing lasts. I promise you that there will be a fool in the Bezos family at some point who will squander this or make a bad investment or something else entirely. Yes, our investing options have changed, but humans haven't.

If you think the Bezos family (+ future generations) will be rich forever, consider this: "When 120 of Cornelius Vanderbilt's descendants gathered at Vanderbilt University in 1973 for the first family reunion, there was not a millionaire among them."

For the record, if the market was down 50% I would be providing the exact same advice. Investing is more about behavior change than trying to make the right market calls.

My first article that did well on Twitter was called "Just Keep Buying." Some people said I was crazy to say this given how "overvalued" the market was at the time. But since its publication in April 2017, the S&P 500 is up nearly 50%.

Over the past 38 years, it was better to invest in a lump sum at the beginning of the year, than spread equally and invest monthly during the year. Waiting to invest worked in only 5 out of 38 years:

Even if you could buy the market bottoms at the lowest possible prices over time, you still would only outperform dollar cost averaging by 0.4% a year. My latest on the appeal of market timing:

MacKenzie Bezos's financial advisor recommends she keeps 15,000 years worth of cash, just in case.

This is probably a story about changing buying habits (i.e. older people needing stocks in their 401k vs. having a pension) among other things. Data is from here:

Yes the Americans under 40 ownership share of the stock market has dropped, but so has the share owned by 40-54 year olds as well. They had 33% in 2001 and now they own 20%. The story is far more complex than "millennials can't afford stocks."

1/ This time I just have a single image here. It was taken in 1900 in New York City, and it's of course colorized by my latest and greatest and unreleased DeOldify model. I've done this one before but it's great to test the model on high resolution renders.
