    This is stunning. We've known for at least a decade that opioids were a huge problem. Yet, US prescriptions keep going. 5% of the world population, consuming 80% of prescription opioids.

    I keep thinking about the scenarios that the long term nuke waste storage WIPP people dreamt up as potential incursion risks and my favorite is the postmodernist feminist collective that doesn't believe in phallocentric science and so ignores the warnings.

    In a lecture years ago, points out that singulatarians worries about accelerating intelligence always mean 'what we currently value as booksmart' but what if super intelligence meant you were really good at dancing or had crushing moments of self revelation and empathy?

    One property of an unfree press is that getting news from outside the country is nearly impossible. The US cobbled that together accidentally. Living here, it is very easy to fall into only consuming news from and about the US.

    Two recent things that have improved my experience of using a Mac. 1. I think it was who shared that you can send all your screenshots to a custom folder in your dock. 2. This app lets you choose the browser to open links from Zoom or whatever.

    Cluster-hiring is an interesting approach to diversifying a workforce. Instead of bringing people in one at a time to be chewed up by the institution's culture, you bring in a group at once to collaborate and support one another.

    RISD has announced a cluster-hire to bring 10 new faculty members to RISD in academic year 2021/22 with expertise in issues of race and decoloniality in the arts and design. Details to come but keep an eye out.
