  1. As Justice Sonia Sotomayor wrote in her dissent of the Texas law and her colleagues' decision to allow it: "The Act is a breathtaking act of defiance—of the Constitution, of this Court’s precedents, and of the rights of women seeking abortions throughout Texas."

Three little yellow drops of sunshine from this morning. 😍 It's always a lovely treat to see a male during Fall migration still bright in breeding plumage like this gorgeous Cape May(pic1). Wilson's Warbler&Common Yellowthroat cutie pies round out this trio.

Can't help but feel that the general attitude toward mass death in this country was buttressed by decades of painting illness as a individual moral failure brought on by unhealthy lifestyles and not a structural issue experienced communally.

  16. Pretty striking that a group devoted to overturning Roe and banning abortion says getting Texas to expand Medicaid coverage is too far beyond the realm of the possible to bother backing:

This is b/c nationally it is a losing issue. Abortion is popular. The GOP can use it to drive turnout among certain groups, but it has limited cross-over appeal. Democrats should do everything in their power to use this to their advantage.

I believe Roberts wassincere here and I have don’t doubt he tried to persuade Kavanaugh. But his motivation wasn’t to protect women’s rights. It was to protect the GOP. This is bad politics for Republicans.
