Will it still be Cloud Foundry, owned by the CFF, or will this be a disparate bunch of proprietary projects?

Entirely personally, I think we should standardise and certify the 12-factor app UX via the CFF, and let the (multiple) implementations live where they live. Think GraphQL - it's just a spec, with several server and client implementations.

Would this be a similar thing like what the CNCF app lifecycle SIG does? I have great hopes for their efforts.

yeah, as far as I know they're looking for lowest common denominator metadata for apps and an opinionated "Cloud Native 12-factor App UX" spec would be pretty far out of their scope but you'd hope they'd integrate nicely together

Really? https://docs.google.com/document/d/1PpHh9D1rE7efR4mX_ClQC1V_piCiP5KMgCpbJp3zMDw … seemed covering a bit more than that

Literally the first bullet point in "Out of Scope": "The following topics of discussion and tasks are out of scope of this SIG: Platform as a Service (PaaS)"

You don’t need to call it a PaaS, if you solve the pieces, this is what you get.

ok but see the third bullet in that section ;)

but seriously, if the CNCF wants to extend its scope that far then yeah it could live there. It feels to me like we should have some smaller communities rather than an uber-CNCF-all-the-things but maybe the SIG structure accomplishes enough of that idk.

100% agreed on what *should* be happening

End of the day, the goal (my goal, anyway) is that most people should be able to write code and not see CRDs. In an ideal world that’s in the CFF, but honestly it’s all Linux Foundation and the same companies either way really
