I agree. Consumer and product liability law and organisational sanctioning of 'practitioners' can do a great deal to prevent vulnerable people from making these choices. But there will always be obdurate patients - who have the personal autonomy to make the wrong choices. 1/2

A YouTube video with the personal testimonies of regretful patients would probably have far greater impact than reasoned arguments in print. ICYMI: https://www.skepticalscience.com/Debunking-Handbook-now-freely-available-download.html …

Its easier for some to believe in magic than science. Scientific and medical research takes time. Treatment and medical appts take time. I love the oils in my basil, chives & mint. And the eucalypt leaves I crush give me a boost. But I'll take medicine over magic.

Thank you for an excellent article. I can well understand your frustration. My daughter said something wise to me yesterday, when I tried to argue with an anti-vaxxer: Dad, don't use facts, use stories. Facts don't convince them. Stories do.

This is horrible and dangerous, but correct. Emotions and feelings are paramount, facts be damned. "Crime statistics show levels are going down." "... but, I don't /feel/ safe, so that can't be right."

Read it again. "swapped" means exchanging effective chemotherapy for magic. Your link suggests a minor tweak of diet to make chemotherapy work better. Essential oils are simply pseudoscience when it comes to medicine (not cooking or housekeeping).
