Unencrypted iCloud backups are a big vulnerability, and are being currently exploited by bad actors (a great example of why backdoors aren’t safe), only something like this could keep them from being remediated.

This will be a hard blow to those who blindly accept that whatever @Apple does must be the best for security or anything else for that matter. Understand what these company are trying to do &then apply your own brain to it and protect yourself and keep your data private & secure.

What about third party apps? We accept that @Apple holds the encryption keys and, if they chose, view anything you save, but are third party apps that sync using iCloud open as well? There’s no clear word in that.

Privacy protections....?

Use other cloude storage that does.
