WINNER: Experienced IMGs. Many residency programs screen applicants with a “year of graduation” filter - so some of the most experienced IMGs are chronically unmatched. But now, if IMGs are residency trained with 3+ years of experience, repeating residency won’t be necessary.

anyway. the US healthcare system is very broken because even primary care is hard for some people to access but that's a thread for another time 🙃

bc when patients are waiting months to get in to see the super specialized physician at the academic center, we are *still* taking care of them and trying to manage their complex or rare disease as best we can

you can tell which physicians in OP's comments are specialists and who aren't! community primary care physicians are OUT HERE

but you can bet your bottom dollar that I know how to manage your/your parent's diabetes, hypertension, CHF. I can talk to you/your loved ones about safety at home as you age, end of life decisions. I can biopsy that concerning mole and tell you how to manage your eczema or acne.

and yes, even in primary care, you can find your niche... your special interest. you can do more of the things you love. for example, I see more gyn concerns, do more mom-baby care, and still manage pregnancies and attend vaginal deliveries bc that's my passion.
