The point is that the decision to be circumcised should be made by the person undergoing the procedure, not by their parents/medics/anyone else. Preference is all well and good, but the person to whom the penis belongs should be making the choice about their own body.
-
sorry , I’d rather have it done when an infant and no memory of it than as an adult

-
Perhaps if you didn’t have the personal preference for circumcision you would feel very differently about children having their bodies modified without their consent.

He has no idea what he is missing, the foreskin is highly functional & incredibly sensitive -- the best part, if you ask me. I would rather lose one of my toes than lose my foreskin!

Like yes, but also no. It is mutilation and it shouldn't be allowed, but it shouldn't be compared to FGM which is arguably much more brutal as its core aim is to remove sexual pleasure from women.
-
I agree. It *technically* is and it should be stopped but FGM is much more reprehensible

disagree, it’s not comparable to female genital mutilation which is abhorrent, traumatic, dangerous, oppressive, often illegal etc. Male circumcision carries minor risks, doesn’t lead to long term problems, is culturally important without cost to quality of life.
-
Nothing should ever be cut from a person / child without consent unless absolutely necessary, for example, to save the child’s life. Nothing.
-
2) I think it’s reasonable to bend our ideals to accommodate ancient cultural/religious customs that are important to people and genuinely carry extremely low risks. That is to say, I think circumcision is a reasonable exception to this principle.
-
It’s not and never is reasonable to bend any rules to cut a piece of anything off a child unless absolutely necessary. You, my friend, have been brainwashed.
-
repeating what you originally said, and responding to what i said by simply calling me brainwashed: interesting and well thought-out argument, thanks for playing xo
-
No amount of cleverly constructed text will detract from the point that cutting a piece off a child is just not acceptable, unless absolutely medically necessary. ‘Low risk’ is still risk. And of course a child cannot consent. People should stop messing with little boys’ penises.

Ridiculous at best and a very clumsy comparison

My son had to have a circumcision at the age of 6 due to having none retracting foreskin. This is far from mutilation!! It has benefited him so much
-
The argument is against routine circumcision without medical necessity
