I don't think that gauging convenience is the reason that epidemiology is concerned with co-morbidities. Instead, it's because we can use that data to understand how to stratify risk - to identify which populations need to be isolated from which in order to minimize total harm.

I'm not talking about those wanting to collect data to help make informed decisions – I'm super on board with that. I'm talking about the "re-open everything because mah freedomz" and "Covid only kills people with pre-existing conditions, so why should I care?" crowd.

I remember talking to a coworker about this in the midst of the dumpster fire that was 2016, about how the world at large needs more empathy. I don't think things have improved in that regard, and I fear they will continue to get worse.
