This is the emissions trajectory required for 1.5C. Question for : Is there *any* technology that can be deployed fast enough to achieve this, or are we at a point where only radical reductions in energy use can meet this trajectory at least in the short term?

The truth about carbon offsets: gives us the lowdown on what offsets are, and if they work. Dave Hampton sums it up pretty neatly: "Offsetting is like kicking a dog then donating £10 to RSPCA."

Do the planet a favour. Fly more and double the offset to make your flight carbon negative. You know it makes sense.

Majority support for a Adam Bandt's 'Green New Deal' or Barnaby Joyce's 'More coal + nukes' vision is unlikely. There has to be compromise at both extremes and a coming together at the centre.

If you wanted to build a centrist coalition for climate action, getting LNP moderates on board who support both renewables and nuclear would be the place to start.

LNP moderates supporting nuclear. 'Sources say Wilson and Zimmerman also spoke in favour of nuclear power, commending MP Ted O’Brien for his parliamentary inquiry into the issue, which was tabled in December, and advocating for it to be further explored.'

Out running in NYC rain, struck by the century-long triumph of environmental regulation that allows air so clean in a huge city. We should celebrate environmental success to demonstrate the power of government regulating for public good & driving technological change.

For the first time on record, we had January when Oslo, Stockholm, Helsinki and Copenhagen were above freezing (0°C) every day of the month. In addition, all but Oslo were totally snow-free. Satellite image on 22 Jan 2020.

The UK's experience contradicts 's assertion. Australia will need a lot of storage to avoid burning more gas, and progress on pumped hydro in particular has been glacial. Batteries are unlikely to supply significant storage capacity for the foreseeable future.

Because: 1. When all emissions included from flying (eg concrete for airports) it’s 5% of emissions 2. It’s the hardest sector to decarbonise so needs usage reduction 3. CO2 from flying rising fast: up 25% since 2013 4. It’s mainly people flying >5 times a year - curtail this

The five fastest historical decarbonization rates over a ten-year period have all been achieved in nationalized and centralized energy systems. Public power as a climate strategy:
