Male students ask for grade changes more frequently than female students, and the result is a grade boost for men.

Saraqeb was just captured by Syrian regime forces. This is what the regime has done to the town to make this possible.

For me the best is still ElKheir in Haifa. Should try the Fuka'aia soup and the Okra. And the perfect shish Barak.

"In 2007 Mossad caught a break. A Mossad agent hidden among Hezbollah leaders got access to Mughniyeh’s cell phone, allowing the organization to track his movements." This piece is as good as advertised.

Ik vind Zwolle trouwens een mooie stad, met fraaie, statige gebouwen en panden, die een historische sensatie opwekken.

There's a whole industry of buzzfeed type writing that specializes in running puff pieces about various cultures that actually show a superficial outsider fascination and little else.

There's nothing to any of this supposed culturally unique phenomena. Differences are much more subtle: directness, a certain casualness perhaps, relatively low materialism, relatively egalitarian gender dynamics perhaps. There's no uniquely cool Dutch ways of socializing.

Feb. 5, 62 CE: Seneca (Natural Questions 6.1) notes there was a large earthquake which shook Pompeii & Herculaneum in 63 ––whereas Tacitus later noted it was in 62 (the likely year). We've a relief depicting the tectonic event from an altar in the House of Caecilius Iucundus.

really struggles to superimpose a sinister atmosphere (spooky musical score and everything) on images of that little Monopoly capitalist cartoon guy. There's an absurdity to it.

The best possible outcome for Biden now might be a total muddle at the top w/ other candidates fighting for weeks over who “won.” And that is...very possible.
