“The media shows the tiniest percentage of what people do. There are millions and millions of people doing wonderful things all over the world, and they’re generally not the ones being touted in the news.”

Not sure if it's the autism spectrum disorder, but I'm unapologetically pedantic. I tend to care more about being correct than being helpful or leaving the best impression. It's a good trait for mathematics, logic, or hard science, but it can offend people.

U2F/FIDO2 authentication works kinda well on desktops and laptops (at least in Chrome via WebAuthn), but Android is a different story. It sort of works in Chrome, but Brave and Firefox appear to be a work in progress.

Does anyone actually buy $350 HDMI cables that are functionally the same as something you can get for $10 online? How is this even viable without extremely dishonest sales tactics?

Miscommunication is expensive. The best ways to minimize it are to stay as small as you can, hire generalists (compress the talent stack), teach people to manage up, move slower, and instill writing as a core component of your culture.

It's Christmas day, and all over the world, ordinary people are puzzling over UIs that designers hoped other designers would find impressively minimal.

Something about Christmas triggers an intense self-loathing and depression in me for some reason. It's an intensely awkward time too.

If you think about it, "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer" is about how those who are different are commonly mocked and excluded unless they're useful for something.

I guess you could say that someone installed some "unapproved technology" in a room where we keep some of our most "critical infrastructure".

Youtube 2009: Bumfights, Tourettes guy, high school brawls, edgy politics, weird conspiracy stuff, obscure music videos never seen since they were on once in the 80s 2019: Corporate swill, same news corps as on TV, unfunny late night comedians, astroturfed food & style reviews

It just occurred to me that there are people who live their whole lives without ever voiding a warranty. It must be a dull life.

Neurotypical weekend: 40% socializing 40% extended errand trips with multiple stops 20% laundry Neurodivergent weekends: 20% reflecting on stuff I did last week that I now feel was stupid 30% sitting on the couch waiting for my brain to want to do the stuff I planned 50% ????

Sometimes I think about how much opensource software and Wikipedia wouldn’t exist without neuro-atypical people.

I hate to say it, but "ok boomer" is one of the laziest memes in recent years. You can do better.

People don't often realize it, but Karl Popper's philosophy on tolerance essentially endorses a zero-tolerance treatment of anything considered intolerant. It is often necessary to tolerate (though not accept) intolerance in order to make a more meaningful long-term difference.

Are there any phones out there that still have flat screens that can easily be put in a protective case? I am using this Note 4, and everything I see these days seems designed to break and unable to be put in a case.

There's something strangely liberating about giving up on things that simply aren't meant for me and instead focusing on things that are within reach. It helps to be satisfied with my own accomplishments and to ignore the disappointment of others.
