Isn't privacy software from Goog an oxymoron: Google open sources its differential privacy framework @BetaNewshttps://buff.ly/2PPKb29

One wonders: Does google open source software to prevent criticism of it, as if to deflect it to a new community? Kubernetes was fun, but it had enormous and successive holes in it that google doesn't get criticized for.

Google open sources software in order to make that category a commodity and avoid problems that might arise with a proprietary vendor in that category. (tbh Google is more a "self defense by
#commoditization" company than they are a surveillance company. https://blog.zgp.org/device-drivers-privacy-publishing/ … )1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes -
I'm sure that's true, but it also deflects code criticism. They spawn, others enhance/debug/improve their "droppings". Then they kill projects and leave people hung (see +, Nest, etc etc).

They couldn't actually kill, say, k8s like they did Google+. It would keep running in Linux Foundation space -- but still not a profit center for anyone, so successful commoditization.
