Understand what happened? Your technology isn’t safe, and an innocent person is dead. That’s what happened. Duh

Yes, no human had ever been killed by any technology till today.
-
I think these autonomous cars are a good idea. And I understand that there will, inevitably, be accidents. I just think that this technology has not advanced to the point where it is ready for public roads.
-
...I'd rather have an autonomous car with 2018 technology and a driver behind the wheel than a normal car with a normal driver behind the wheel. Cars are inherently unsafe. Autonomous is still safer.
-
There was a driver behind the wheel. Probably too tired from working for Uber and fell asleep.

So is it the cars fault, the maker of the car or Uber’s?
-
Could be the car, make, Uber or the pedestrian. Self-driving cars don't have much less mass... if I step in front of one, it will run me over.
-
So it’s Uber’s fault for putting unsafe technology on the streets. No need for self driving cars. What’s next, the Jetsons
-
Dude, Uber can't override physics. In case the lady waked in front of the car, there is no amount of tech that can prevent an accident. We have to wait to see what happened.
-
How do you assume that the woman walked (unexpectedly) in front of the car?
-
I don't assume, it's a theory. We need the facts before saying for sure that it was the car/tech or the pedestrian's fault. Both are plausible explanations, that's why I also say we need to see what happened.
-
I know what happened. A self driving car killed a person. Pretty black and white. If the self driving car isn’t on the road this person is probably alive today.
-
So what if this was a normal car? Do you think if the pedestrian stepped 3 feet in front of the car, a person would've been able to prevent the accident?.... things are NEVER black/white, we need to know the details before shoving blame onto others.

You don't know what happened? Maybe what happened was you sent a 2 ton weapon out onto the public highway controlled by a computer program that had logical decisions not common sense, that is the preserve of humans! Ask any professional driver their opinion on autonomous cars!
-
They made the mistake of making it react like a real uber driver would

The ONLY incredibly sad thing is that YOU put profits above people. I hope her family puts you out of business. And as a CDL driver, you think that driverless trucks are a good idea??
-
Autonomous vehicles are about efficiency and sustainability as well as safety. YOU are desensitized to deaths by human error if this is news by comparison. Parked cars littering the Earth is NOT the answer.
-
Perhaps your generation wasn't well-enough educated to have learned about SAFETY FIRST. Why should we care about people who fail to understand the value of prioritizing life over efficiency? And sustainability? Who cares about parked cars if moving cars keep killing people?
-
I know, it's an epidemic. Make all cars stationary, they're much safer without wheels!
