With Trump it is always a horse race between being a traitor, being a racist and being corrupt. All three are always so close to the surface, always driving his behavior. The only way to deal with this is to refer to him as a corrupt, racist, traitor.
But then there's his ignorance. And his incompetence. And his unfitness. And his misogyny. And his narcissism. And his nativism. And his contempt for democracy. And his love of despots. And what about his greed, shallowness, mean-spiritedness, hypocrisy and lying.
All are right there, all are involved in every action he takes. When he breaths each breath is a corrupt, racist, traitor, ignorant, incompetent, unfit, misogynistic, narcissist, nativist, anti-democratic, pro-despot, greedy, shallow, mean-sprinted, hypocritical, lying breath.
Which is why it is hard to describe him briefly. But gradually over time, we are coming to realize that one word captures all these flaws, all these threats to our country and the world. That word is: Trump. And for all time it will stand for all the worst things a person can be.
It is no exaggeration to say that not only is Trump the worst of our presidents, he is the worst among us.
Ultimately he’s a gangster. That’s the essential category.
