My latest work, a collaboration with , is out now as a preprint! We use a computational modeling approach to characterize a reward prediction error signal in ventral pallidum that's generated from the recent reward history.

One lesson I've (re)learned while writing my thesis... always look at the actual data before citing a paper!

In thirsty mice, water-predicting cues transiently shift insula population activity to a water-sated represenation, a sort of prediction of the future physiological state that would result from the upcoming water reward (Fig 7). Really exciting finding!

The main message here (especially for allies) is to take LGBTQ+ scientists' concerns seriously and make the effort to make scientific spaces more visibly welcoming.

It's both validating and disheartening to hear my experiences of fear of coming out in certain professional spaces and dismissal of LGBTQ+ issues by other scientists echoed by a professor.

I've attended dozens of teas and lunches with local and visiting faculty throughout my 5 years in grad school, and today was the first one with an openly LGBTQ+ faculty member! An exciting day, but a bleak statistic.

Thanks for a fun, stimulating day, and a lovely dinner. I had such a great time meeting everyone (and playing with Bailey!)

For , I'm excited to share my PhD work with on in vivo imaging of AMPA receptor plasticity. We found that motor learning increases AMPAR levels in both motor and visual cortices. Read more :

I’ve resigned from the editorial board of eNeuro. The review process failed to pick up on a catastrophically flawed paper and the journal refuses to correct their mistake.

Every time a diversity fellowship wants a separate statement about how I will make science more inclusive, I think about how wrong it is to ask underrepresented minorities to write about their struggles in personal statements then also discuss how to prevent others from that pain

would like to see societies move beyond just passing out buttons for folx and acting like that is solving the problem, when it is really the bare minimum effort. We need you to actually step up to the plate with advocacy and inclusion efforts at the government level.

So excited to share the preprint for my first paper in grad school! Thank you to and everyone involved! We trained male and female mice on a two-armed visual bandit and found sex differences in the strategic approaches employed to learn the task.

On the heel of a lot of threads I'm seeing, if y'all know of any trans students who have questions about grad school/PhD programs in the life sciences you can tag them here and I'll do my best to answer qs including whats it's like being a TWoC in science

So let's say you record 100 neurons from each of 5 animals in response to 2 different stimuli... or count dendritic spines on 100 neurons in each of 10 animals, with half of animals subjected to 1 of 2 drug conditions... Then you've got hierarchical data. (THREAD)
