It's not that there is "no self". "self" or "no self" is bound up in the sort of thinking that posits objects or existence - Noticing the characteristics are for seeing the arising and passing of self-and-object - ultimate truth vs relative truth.

The Buddha wasn't silent on anattā. Check out the Anatta-lakkhana Sutta.

That's right. See also the Mahatanhasankhaya Sutta (MN 38), where the Buddha is clearly presented as rejecting any idea of consciousness as an ongoing basis for identity.
