I remember when a review came at the brilliant @TroyLWiggins on some very similar bullshit for a story we put in Long Hidden and I swear everything turned bright red I was so mad. I lit them up on here and they retracted but man...man.

We shouldn't have to be experts in explaining ourselves on top of everything else. We don't get to just be storytellers. It's a shakedown.

I think "style" should be thrown out. Outdated. I prefer slang and "real life" writing any day. If it's dialogue, write how people really talk.
-
If you've seen past attempts at "writing how people really talk" I don't think you'd be so excited about that.

Yeah, linguistic racism.

In so, so sorry to see you treated like this. It's clearly racsim. Read some of, say, Faulkner's dialog. Would she say he's "limited in appeal" (he is) or imy intellectual inferiority, because he's famous and white.

‘Altering her neighborhood’s racial complexion’ almost made me choke to death from rage.

Also, Zuri’s “animus” is against gentrification, which could be by either white or black families. She’s not just angry about the “complexion” of her neighborhood; she’s concerned about cultural and economic loss.
