(It's also one of the rarer forms of Christianity founded in the USA, but far less well known or widespread than Mormonism I think?)

Maybe reasonable! I am not deeply familiar with it. I had some coworkers long ago who were Mormon. The South Park treatments are hilarious.

Allegro seemed to think that the mushrooms in question were fly agaric, which aren't really the best sorts for tripping so much as dying.;-/

Though there are some traditions which use them, I think they're pretty reliant on shaman or deer for breaking down the toxins a bit.

Yes, and no evidence that any non-Uralic people ever learned the secret. Psilocybes you just eat; better candidate for kykeon etc.
