3/ Where does the 14.5% number come from? The answer is "farts". Livestock (cows, sheep, etc.) ferment their food in their guts, generating lots of methane that they fart/burp back out. This accounts for 27% of methane emissions, and methane causes 35 times more warming than CO2

4/ However, unlike CO2, methane quickly degrades. Methane comes from CO2 when plants grown, and quickly decomposes back to CO2 when released in the atmosphere, so the long term trend is no change.

Bad news: That fact is accounted for in the CO2 equivalent figure. Methane causes 35x the warming of CO2 after you account for its half-life. While in the atmosphere the effect is quite a bit greater. This is why methane clathrates are so scary.
