“It doesn’t matter how powerful it is” well we disagree about that. I think it matters very much

Dude you said it had NO human input. It literally is constricted to white and black stones and a board. It's not some free floating completely unrestricted mind. It's parameters are limited entirely to the one's its programmers have given it. This isn't AI it's RL.

I meant it had no data from human games. I’m not worried about whether we should call such things “ai” because the fact is they are going to have a huge impact on economies, militaries, and human life. That’s it

Yes it did. It had the board size and the amount of pieces available. How is that 'no data from human games'?

Are you actually too dumb to understand that the researchers mean games played out by humans using pieces versus the rules of the game

Myshkin right in the sense that teaching computard to play this, or a video game has no applications outside of it

No institution that actually has skin in the game and advanced knowledge agrees. Business, militaries around the world, scientists...but yeah you’re totally right there are no applications. Let’s check back in ten years

Naive ai skepticism is one of the memes that I have essentially no sympathy for because it is completely incorrect

yes they're also pouring money into nanotech and other frauds...that govt bureaucracies and academics are pouring MONEY into bullshit doesn't mean it's real science. Lots of people want money and make shit up. At the moment there aren't any applications

You’re right every important institution is cucked and only internet posters that lack real experience in technology can see the truth

F*ceb**k can recognize a billion faces and we're within striking distance of making convincing video of anyone doing anything but, sure, no applications

I'm honestly not sure how anyone can believe it. It's so obviously wrong that I have a hard time taking it seriously.

Some of the more breathless xrisk singulatarian bloviating has poisoned the well a bit. AI is less like us than an insect in many ways, I suspect always will be, that doesn't make it fake or less important

On a truly long time horizon (think within 100 years) we could see truly powerful forms of AI emerge, but it's not the sort of thing anyone should try to make specific predictions about. It's worth thinking about but obviously less important than more immediate tech problems.
