      what the hell did I just read and why does the author not understand that Christianity originated as a radical movement in the Eastern (i.e. Greek) empire. There is no accounting for the history of the West without understanding that.

          Greek remained the lingua franca of the Eastern Roman Empire throughout its history, up to its fall in the 15th century, and the culture was strongly Hellenistic.
