If "treat others as you want to be treated" is true... than I see a lot of people who want to be treated pretty poorly. Pondering that this morning.
A couple observations: I think the Golden Rule is concerned with the good, not the true. I prefer Confucius' formula: do not do unto others as you would not have them do unto you. This is because negativity universalises better than positivity.

To expand: I would love to be offered liquorice. Many, possibly most, would not. Virtually no one likes to be abused or humiliated.

Are you getting at the letter of the word or the intent in the original message? I find it important to get at what was meant. In any case, we as a society are getting more abusive of each other while expecting others to not act in kind on us. What leads us here?
