If "treat others as you want to be treated" is true... than I see a lot of people who want to be treated pretty poorly. Pondering that this morning.
The presumption that others subscribe to that philosophy is likely not accurate, isn't embedded in the heuristic, and, if acted upon, goes against it.

I wrapped it in an if true clause. All of this is worth considering. Do many people even think this trough? Not to have a quick judgement of it but think and reason on the different parts.
-
Here are some questions to personally consider... Is this true or not? Why? Why is that why? Would I like to be treated the way I treat others? How would I react and feel if I was treated the way I treat those I disagree with?

A couple observations: I think the Golden Rule is concerned with the good, not the true. I prefer Confucius' formula: do not do unto others as you would not have them do unto you. This is because negativity universalises better than positivity.
-
To expand: I would love to be offered liquorice. Many, possibly most, would not. Virtually no one likes to be abused or humiliated.
-
Are you getting at the letter of the word or the intent in the original message? I find it important to get at what was meant. In any case, we as a society are getting more abusive of each other while expecting others to not act in kind on us. What leads us here?
