None of this is ideal. There will massive changes to the way our civilization works, massive inconveniences, massive disruptions. But we cannot avoid those now, period. All we can do is try to limit the harm they do to us and our descendants.

I would never do such a thing ever. But a smart person doing it would look for single points of failure that cascade -- like all the IV bags in N. America being manufactured in one plant, and so on.

I don’t have the nerve. It would need to be done in a way that doesn’t kill plant workers, for a host of reasons. But the moral case is compelling.
