In fact, we don't. We've been detached from ecosystems since we developed more complex civilized (urban) models of societies. Technology allowed us to dominate our ecosystems to the point that we became separated from the rest of the species.

I agree with you. The eventual disappearance of an ecosystem is part of its natural life cycle. What ia not part of that cycle is that in a couple of centuries almost every single ecosystem on Earth is at risk of being destroyed because of detrimental human influence.
