Out of curiosity, who thinks people should be held accountable for the hate and harassment comments they make online when they think they're anonymous?

If we give these people the "freedom of speech" to say the hateful things they do like most people replying to this are arguing for, then we also have the freedom of speech to report what they're saying to someone else. Works both ways
-
Yep, freedom of speech means you can say anything you want, but it doesn't protect you from the non-legal consequences of your poor behavior.

Think its difficult if you want to respect free speech. Hard to draw the lines

I think they do. The fact that people only make them when they feel they're anonymous (I.E. safe) means that they're just horrible people. I think a lot of them could do with some hard awakenings.

absolutely. the comments about people wanting to rape me or feel that because I'm nice I "owe them" something... that isn't free speech. That's threats to harm another human being....

As far as harassment goes... If people are going out of their way to target someone and are continuously being hurtful to someone who has made it clear they dont want contact with that individual, then yes they should be held accountable. Or just block them. (2)

I think people should be accountable, but also the world is too sensitive so you can’t say anything without upsetting anyone. Writing is hard to get a cross sarcasm and controversial statements said in jest where in the pub your mates would laugh for a second and move on.
