There's a lot of reinforcement/temptation to pick up a "not like those girls" persona, which I imagine is complicated to avoid.

Definitely! My take, fwiw, is to just be yourself, and ignore attempts to pigeonhole/etc, unless that's what you want. It's a big space :)
