I don't get the babe, sweetie, honey-names when talking to a "stranger". To a close friend, family member or lover, sure. But to a normal friend or stranger.... Just use the person's name. It's literally what a name is meant for. 
Yep, really, my skin crawls when people treat me in these kinds of romantic ways. I don't know why I even have to say it so much for people to respect my boundaries.
Guessing it's the nature of the beast. Anonymity makes people think they can do and say whatever without repercussions. Alas, we're stuck with morons clogging up the chat, tweets and dm's.
