The straw ban is dumb and hurts disabled people who genuinely need them. If you want to save the damn oceans, STOP EATING FISH. Most of the plastic in the ocean is from discarded fishing nets

I read the story on your last RT, and while that shouldn't ever happen there are still plenty of plastic straw alternatives. Just because one thing is worse for the ocean doesn't mean we shouldn't actively take better measures to keep things clean. Bendy metal straws exist.
As someone who needs a straw due to nerve sensitivity (I can't drink ice-cold drinks full stop, or properly drink most cold beverages without one), I can accept using paper ones, or using my own metal straws.

I’ve just bought metal ones I’m going to start carrying but appreciate it’s not practical for everyone. It would be great to see all bars stocking paper straws and checking in that they haven’t fallen to bits (as they can) if a patron is particularly in need.

Metal and paper straws don't bend, and metal straws are not safe if you have seizures or tics etc. I just hope that disabled people are able to get hold of a plastic straw when they need to :(
